For some Republicans the abortion issue is the only issue that matters to them. The numbers I have seen say the majority of Republicans favor a women's right to choose. I don't think this issue will affect Trump winning the nomination. I do feel it's Trump's way of appealing to the "middle" for the general election but with the rest of his baggage I don't see him gaining ground while acting more reasonable. Let's not forget there was a time that Trump favored a women's right to choose and for political expediency he flipped his position. In any case if Trump where to get someone pregnant is there any doubt he would ask her to have an abortion. On the other hand, if he is convicted of any of the charges combined with the right to life followers dropping him, the two outcomes could cause the beginning of an avalanche.

You're right. He does have his eye on the general election. But declaring the law a "terrible mistake" sends a message to the Republican base. If they truly care about principle, this should have an impact. How much, I don't know. I'll just be interested in seeing how hard DeSantis and others will pursue this issue. Already, Kim Reynolds has weighed in. And it's getting to be about time when decisions are truly being made. in Iowa This is an opening. We'll see if Trump's rivals can make gains on it.
