Ed, I went to a Republican caucus last night on the west side of Waterloo - as a journalist, not a participant. A middled aged woman who spoke in support of Trump said two things that stuck with me:

1) "They're coming for us anyway, so we might as well stick with our guy."

2) "We aren't voting for a priest."

This woman didn't have a script. She said exactly what she felt.

Trump got 54 votes of 103 cast at that caucus. That's 52.4 percent.

Haley got 21 votes, DeSantis 19, Ramaswamy 7, Hutchinson 1.

As nearly as I could tell, everyone there was white.

The sad story is that the smartest guy in the room is now out of the race.

Ed I am totally in amazement as I review the results of the primary yesterday. I wonder if there is anything Trump could do that would finally turn people away from him. I guess if you lie and keep lying people just believe it must be true. On the other hand, he has already been convicted of sexual assault of a women, found guilty of lying about his net worth and leverage that to get favorable loan rates, been indicted on 4 felony accounts for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and end democracy, been indited on 13 felony counts for election interference, charged with 34 felony accounts in connection with hush money payments to a porn star, and finally charged with 37 counts for retaining highly classified defense information in violation of the Espionage Act. Anyone of these legal issues should be enough to disqualify him and all are serious enough he should go to prison for. Joe Biden may be old be there is no proof he is a disreputable person. Bottom line, Trump is not fit to serve, and I don't care if you agree with his "so called policies".
