Ed, I don't know what it is about human nature and today's inundation of information. Perhaps, that combination leads the people to be satisfied with finger pointing, Sort of a citizen's gotcha moment, when it feels good to point out the weaknesses of someone, without taking time or energy to read news analysis, or fact checking.

Immigration policy and enforcement is a federal issue and not a state issue which Governor Abbott has been learning. My issue is since it is a federal issue why hasn't the administration stepped up to pay for housing and food for those immigrants being sent to sanctuary cities. While I rarely agree with Abbott on anything, I don't think it's right that Texas bear the financial burden for the influx of large numbers of illegal immigration.

Agreed. I said in an article a while back that other states, including Iowa and Illinois, should help out. This is an issue for all Americans, not just those who live in the southwest.

2) I agree with your essay, I needed to say. I think a legitimate criticism of Reynolds and the whole R party is asking them what they propose....(comparable to failure of opponents to offer concrete alternatives to Obamacare). Have R's detailed any proposal for Central American countries to deter immigration? Given undemocratic nature of counties, that is difficult. Immigrants, like my relatives, fled persecution, war and authoritarianism. Maybe some MAGA types believe that US authoritarian policies will deter immigration, too.

Solutions are always helpful. Unfortunately, it's too easy to just point the finger.

1) I have a small group of friends who we can actually converse on politics. They are my informal focus group. One is an expert on transportation issues. After I shared your essay, he commented that he believed very few immigrants enter America by rail. He also is of the opinion that Biden is just doing the stuff for show.
