Thanks for writing about the regressive nature of sales taxes. Too many leaders talk about how the sales tax is fair, not asking about the disproportionate hit on disposable income paid by working class Iowans

And thanks for reminding Iowans on how Iowa ranks.

I am glad for your writing. I would hope elected officials and candidates talk about the deficit spending, the unfair sales tax, and how the wealthy in Iowa make out like bandits with income tax changes.

"There are leaders who seem to worship the rich as though they are more worthy of privilege, more deserving of forgiveness, more justified in their mistakes than ordinary Americans.

These leaders are completely disconnected from the truth of the lives of most Americans, and they hold to these misconceptions regardless of the facts. I do not know how they can ignore rising poverty, extended unemployment, food lines beginning to emerge in some states, whole families living in cars and panel trucks, and seniors choosing between medication and food.

I am not sure what kind of blindness sets in, but there is a grand denial based on the belief of the separateness of human experience that is unwilling to conform to the truth." - John Lewis, 2012

Smoke and mirrors along with redefinition of fiscal responsibility pretty much describes what Republicans have to offer.

What I don’t understand is their support of millionaires and billionaires when the elected officials are for the most part not part of that wealth strata. I also don’t understand their distain for public education which has been going on for years. I guess concern for Iowa or our country is not as important as getting reelected. What the Republicans have not considered is the affect AI is going to have on the white collar workers and loss of jobs and rising unemployment in a state in which the majority of the workforce is going to be effected. This is going to happen this year.
