LET ME SEE, THEY WORK PART-TIME, TAKE MONEY UNDER THE TABLE FROM CORPORATE LOBBYISTS, REFUSE TO RAISE THE MINIMUM WAGE--$7.25 an hour, and now they want IOWA TAXPAYERS TO GIVE THEY A HUGE PAY-INCREASE. THE IOWA POLITICIANS SHOULD TAKE A MAJOR PAY-CUT---THEY ARE NOT EVEN WORTH $7.25 an hour,
It boggles the mind to think that the Governor would have the “Chuzpah” to approve such a raise at the same time she is making noisesabout have Iowa create its own DOGE social services killing unit!
Can't for the life of me think of anything our state legislators have done to merit a pay raise from $25k to $45k, in addition to per diem. Is this what they are cutting property taxes for ..... and a $100k increase in salary for the governor?? C'mon!
I write and call our federal delegation regularly. I have asked Sen. Ernst to explain what she will do to force transparency (hearings, requests for reports, etc.) on Musk, DOGE, and specifically conflicts of interest on Trump and federal nominees. Perhaps some of your readers have received responses.
Pay them and maybe the legislature would be attractive to more than just those that can put their lives on hold for 3-4 months a year. I'm sure the per diem needs to be raised. Travel and lodging have not gone down in cost.
You want good people so make the job attractive. After all, they get to work all year listening to people "arm chair quarterback" their every movement and/or intonation within a sentence.
Scott County supervisors at one time handled compensation in a fair and reasonable manner by excepting small raises ever year which were under the radar screen of close scrutiny. Under the leadership of Ed Winborn, Maggie Tinsman and others they figured out that it was much easier to include 2% or 3% ever year than to come up with the large increases the state legislators are asking for. I served on a board for a number of years that recommended elected officials compensation for Scott County elected officials. We considered what the city agreed to in their bargaining agreements with all the unions, benchmarks from comparable counties in Iowa, previous raises, cost of living numbers, comparable compensation from other elected positions in our area. While we could only recommend to the supervisors which included their compensation I thought it provided a non-patrician approach to compensation because our board included both democrats and republicans. For a number of years I worked with Mike Duffy who I didn’t share the same political view points and thought we worked together extremely well finding common ground to come up with fair and reasonable outcomes that would be acceptable to tax payers.

Imagining Reynolds receiving 77% raise will I hope bring voters to their senses regarding the way Iowa has been changed in her office years!
