I look forward to your column! I spent a lot of my childhood in eastern Iowa and still have relatives there. I love keeping up on the doings there. I've recently been exposed to the noise of the trains in Fort Madison along the river and just hate it. I go to the water expecting peace and tranquility not noise. Thanks for informing us.
Ed— Very interesting column. Is the fact that these communities have caved in to the railroads’ position somehow linked to a time in Iowa when the railroads were powerful lobbies to state government?
Thanks. Can't say I'm an expert on the history. Local leaders have just said they've researched cases before the STB and came to the conclusion they couldn't stop the merger.
Your postscript is a poetic mission statement. I am rooting for and subscribing to you.
Gary, can you help spread the word? It's wonderful to have Ed on board. We are all the beneficiary of his time, talent and expertise.
This is fascinating, Ed! I’m so looking forward to your columns!
